Cây trúc mây có tên khoa học là Rhapis excelsa, là loài cây thân thảo (thân đốt), mọc thành bụi, có nguồn gốc từ Trung Quốc và Nhật Bản, được yêu thích và du nhập vào nhiều nước, trong đó có Việt Nam.
Kích cỡ cây trúc mây khá đa dạng, cao từ 60cm đến hơn 2m tùy vào môi trường sống, bụi cây om ùm với nhiều cành nhánh, rễ dày.
Thân cây mọc thẳng, có nhiều đốt và nhẵn bóng. Lá cây thuôn dài, nhọn ở đầu, dạng lá kép chân vịt, mỗi nhánh thường có từ 5 – 10 lá. Cuống lá dài, phía dưới sẽ thành bẹ ôm sát vào thân hoặc cành. Khi lá khô và rụng, phần bẹ này sẽ khô theo nhưng vẫn bám vào cây.

Từ cây mẹ, bạn chọn ra một bụi nhỏ, có 2 – 3 nhánh cây, rễ đã đủ dài. Sau đó dùng dao sắc nhẹ nhành tách cây con này ra, bao gồm cả phần rễ sao cho không ảnh hưởng tới cây mẹ.

Sau đó tưới nước đều đặn để duy trì độ ẩm cho cây, chú ý không tưới nhiều tránh gây ngập úng. Sau khoảng vài tuần là cây sẽ sinh chồi và phát triển như một cây mới.
Cách chăm sóc cây trúc mây
Dù có khả năng thích nghi và phát triển khá tốt, nhưng bạn cũng nên chú ý một chút trong quá trình chăm sóc cây trúc mây, đặc biệt là khi cây còn nhỏ.
Tưới nước: là loài cây ưa ẩm, bạn nên duy trì độ ẩm cho cây trúc mây thường xuyên. Nếu đặt cây trong nhà, tốt nhất là tưới 2 lần mỗi tuần. Nếu cây ngoài trời thì 3 lần mỗi tuần, nếu thời tiết nắng gắt có thể tưới nhiều hơn. Chú ý lưu lượng nước mỗi lần tưới, chỉ cần đủ ẩm đất là được.
– Ánh sáng: bạn cần cung cấp đủ ánh sáng cho cây trúc mây để cây có màu xanh đẹp mắt. Nếu trong nhà, hay đặt cây ở nơi có ánh sáng bán phần, ví dụ như gần cửa sổ, giếng trời. Nếu ngoài trời thì không cần quan tâm nhiều, chỉ cần có biện pháp che chắn khi cây còn nhỏ là được.
– Dinh dưỡng: nhu cầu dinh dưỡng của cây trúc mây ở mức trung bình. Tốt nhất là cứ 3 tháng bạn bón cho cây một ít phân NPK, vậy là đủ để cây có thể sinh trưởng tốt. Nếu trồng cây trong chậu, cứ mỗi năm bạn thay đất một lần.
– Phòng trừ sâu bệnh: trúc mây ít khi bị sâu bệnh, nhưng thi thoảng có gặp phải sâu cuốn lá hoặc phấn trắng, bạn chỉ cần mua thuốc về phun là được. Nếu trồng cây trong nhà thì nhớ mang cây ra ngoài trời trước khi phun thuốc nhé. Ngoài ra, trong quá trình chăm sóc bạn nên thường xuyên cắt tỉa để tạo dáng cho cây nhé.
